SMFS’s 2024 Photo Contest Rules

Term: Seven Mile Fly Shop’s Inaugural Photo Contest begins on September 18, 2023, and ends February 1, 2024, at 6:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. Winners will be announced at the annual Seven Mile Fly Shop Tarpon Season Kick-Off Party and on on March 2nd, 2024. By submitting an entry, each contestant agrees to the rules of the contest and states that he or she is 18 years old or older.


Who May Enter:

Seven Mile Fly Shop’s Photo Contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers who are 18 years old or older.




1. Habitat: Any photograph that captures the unique habitats between the Everglades National Park and Key West, FL.


2. Fish: Pictures where the fish is the main focal point. The fish must remain in the water to be eligible for this category.


3. Drone/Aerial: Any photograph captured using an unmanned aerial vehicle, commonly known as a drone. Images shot from planes/helicopters are also accepted.



To be eligible for any category, a photograph must have been shot by the entrant since January 1, 2021. This date applies to all images. The contestant certifies that he/she is the submitted photograph's sole creator and copyright owner.


All photos submitted in which a person is recognizable automatically consent to be reposted.


Photos must be taken in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.


Photos that violate or infringe upon another person's rights, including but not limited to copyright, are not eligible.


Photos that contain sexually explicit, nude, obscene, violent, or other objectionable or inappropriate content, as determined by Seven Mile Fly Shop in its sole discretion, are ineligible for all categories of this contest.


SMFS management reserves the right to void or reject any entry at any time without explanation.


Images in which content has been altered will not be accepted, nor will photos that have been digitally altered beyond standard optimization. Do not over-sharpen images or hypersaturate the color. Photos with watermarks or time stamps will not be accepted.



The welfare of a subject and its environment must be placed ahead of the desire to capture a photograph. Upon entering the contest, entrants certify that subjects were treated with respect and dignity and that no people, wildlife, or the environment were harmed in creating a photograph.


Use of your data: Participation in the contest requires the collection of your name, phone number, and email address. By entering this contest, you consent to using your name, phone number, and/or email address for further communications regarding this contest.


How to Enter: Please submit photographs and requested information to You may submit up to 5 photographs per category for a contest total of 20 submissions. To be displayed in our online gallery without being stretched or distorted, photographs must be submitted in .jpeg, .jpg, or .gif format, at least 2,000 pixels wide and no larger than 10 MB. Please send a separate email for each submission. Digital photographs should be taken at the highest resolution possible.

You retain the rights to your photograph; however, by entering the contest, you grant Seven Mile Fly Shop royalty-free access to use the photographs submitted in the contest for advertising purposes on social media outlets and the Seven Mile Fly Shop website only. Seven Mile Fly Shop will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses. Seven Mile Fly Shop will tag the photographer where appropriate.


Entry Deadline:

February 1st, 2024, at 6:00 PM Eastern Standard Time


Judging: Judging will be conducted by three members of the Seven Mile Fly Shop staff.


Prizes: Seven Mile Fly Shop swag will be awarded to the first, second, and third-place winners of each category.
